(Friday, July 3, 2015) As the result of a riot at the Hualapai Unit at ASP-Kingman, a private facility operated by Management and Training Corporation (MTC), ADC Director Charles Ryan, in accordance with state law, has ordered the relocation of approximately 700 inmates into other correctional facilities.
On the evening of July 1, inmates at the ASP-Kingman private prison participated in a major disturbance in the minimum-security Cerbat Unit.
All employees and inmates are safe and accounted for. During the two incidents, a total of eight prison staff were treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital.
Inmates assaulted six prison guards Wednesday night at Arizona State Prison-Kingman and unrest continued into the night, according to the state Department of Corrections.
Corrections officers received minor injuries when attacked by multiple inmates just after 6 p.m.
Five officers were treated at the prison and one was transported to a local hospital for treatment, Lamereaux said.
The unrest was ongoing as of p.m., Lamereaux said.
Officers were working to put the inmates involved "on lockdown" for the rest of the night.
The incident took place in a minimum-security unit that houses about 2,000 inmates, though there was no immediate word on how many inmates were involved, Lamereaux said.
